For some time the link between Reglan (metoclopramide) and Tardive Dyskinesia has been known. However the drug labeling describes the development of Tardive Dyskinesia as ‘rare'. Unfortunately, that claim is not entirely true.
The Food & Drug Administration approved Reglan for only short-term use (4 to 12 weeks) and only when more conservative treatment fails.
The Duke University School of Medicine in the November/December 2004 Journal of the American Pharmacists Association, warned that the use of Reglan was on the rise and that more cases of drug-induced movement disorders from the medication would follow.
Long-term Reglan use can cause serious Reglan side effects, including Tardive Dyskinesia. Tardive Dyskinesia (TD) is a harrowing syndrome for those diagnosed. The disease affects its victims on many levels; physically, mentally, socially, emotionally, and vocationally.
The tragedy of Tardive Dyskinesia is that so many should never have contracted the syndrome to begin with. For that reason, we are committed to helping victims of Reglan induced Tardive Dyskinesia.
